Hand-embroidered (in cutwork) decorative linens for the main altar and the two front side altars
Each altar on which the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass is offered requires three linens at any one time, with extra linens available to exchange should the linens in use become dirty or stained. These linens are being hand embroidered in cutwork by parishioner volunteers for the Immaculata. The main altar linen extends 40" on each side, plus the length of the mensa, totaling approximately 18-feet of linen
Altar Cover or Vesperale
The vesperale covers the mensa and usually drops several inches on each of three sides (not the back side) of the altar. It is often (but not always) decorated. Its primary purpose is to to keep the white altar linens pristinely clean and dust free, protected dripped beeswax, from flower pedal stains, etc. The main altar vesperale is also being made by parishioner volunteers of velvet lined with silk and having Marian symbols and lettering hand embroidered in gold threads.
